If I can find out why connections are made between specific parts of our brain cells and not others, then we can better understand what goes wrong in learning/memory and neurodegenerative diseases (when brain cells stop working and sometimes die). It would help us to identify why certain people struggle with these problems and not others and work towards finding out who is more likely to have problems and help them.
