Snow is formed when really cold water in the atmosphere (usually too far apart to clump together on it’s own) freezes on to a dust or pollen particle. When enough water freezes on to it, it starts to fall down. As it falls through the layers of air, different amounts of water attach to the snowflake and it forms a unique crystal every time!

It needs to be cold near the ground for the snow to reach the ground, otherwise we just end up with rain, sleet or melting snow 🙁
