Good question! We have to remember that the word ‘drug’ can mean any chemical we put inside our bodies that has an effect. So, just as illegal drugs can have effects on our bodies, so can medicines and these are also called drugs.

I use chemicals/drugs because they allow me to understand how the body works. If I stop one thing from happening with a drug, or increase the action of something, how does this affect the body? If I know what the drug is doing, I can understand what is going on in the body. If I can understand the body, then I can think about maybe making new medicines to treat disease! It all goes round in one big circle 🙂
