Hah! The funniest thing that’s ever happened to me as a scientist happened to me this year!

I was at my graduation ceremony for completing my PhD degree. At these large celebrations there are roughly 1000 people there graduating with you, and their families too. They get you to line up and then call you on stage to get your certificate and they also read out the name of the work you’ve been doing along with your name. The guy read out the name of my work (which has some quite complicated words in) perfectly, but then got my name wrong! Now, my name is pretty simple (Ross King!) and he managed to call me Rose King 🙁

So not only did he get my name wrong, he called me a girl’s name in front of about 1000 people! This was a bit embarrassing but mainly it was quite funny! 😀

The funniest thing that ever happened to me as a scientist is when I confused a huge world renowned scientist for someone else, at a conference in Italy. I thought I knew her scientific work by her name but had completely gotten her mixed up with someone else. I sweated profusely when she looked at me quizzically!!
