      Great question, Abby!

I started out in science as a simple pharmacologist, which means I was interested in studying drugs, how they worked and finding out what they did to the body. In those early days, I was interested in how drugs affected our blood vessels and what changes they made to the body.

Now I am interested in immunopharmacology, which is when we use drugs to understand how the immune system works. This is quite related to my old experiments because cells of the immune system need to move from the blood across the blood vessels to get to where they need to be. I love the immune system because it is always moving around (moving cells are cool!) and it is always adapting and learning. And also it stops us from getting sick, which is pretty useful!

Here is a link to a short video of an immune cell (a neutrophil) chasing a bacteria around and eventually eating it up! It is an old video but it is still amazing to watch – let me know if you like it!
