Hi Jess, I’m thrilled to hear you want to be a scientist and the fact that you are asking advice means that you are going to do it! 🙂

One piece of advice I wish somebody had given me was is to not let any bad test scores make you feel bad, but think of it as a way to improve. You know where you went wrong, so next time you will get it right. I’m sure you have brilliant grades anyway.

If you do well, don’t stop trying hard because it comes naturally, put in the same effort as you will do even better.

My final and MOST important piece of advice is to question what you know, ask WHY is it like that? WHY does that happen? WHY, WHY, WHY?

I wish you the best of luck Jess, but you won’t need any luck, work hard and you will get there 😀

      Hey Jess!

Sorry for just getting around to your question. Aimee has already given you a really fantastic answer.

First off – awesome! We’re all pleased you want to be a scientist! It is a great job and really very rewarding, but tough work sometimes. I think Aimee and I are quite similar in that you shouldn’t let things get you down. I spent a lot of my time at school (and still sometimes do!) thinking that I was rubbish at things and that other people were better than me and I’d never do very well. All I have to say is you have to work as hard as *you* can, it doesn’t matter what everyone else is doing – you do as much as you can do. If you do this, you will be sure to succeed.

The most important thing in school and university in science is to keep asking questions, like Aimee said. Don’t just believe what people tell you – you find out for yourself! Always be curious, always keep reading and always keep questioning why things are the way they are. Be brave! Don’t be afraid to speak out!

Hard work and curiosity will get you there! If I can do it, you can too!

      Good luck, Jess 🙂 🙂
      Ross
