Not my area of expertise, but the heart has a lot of muscle, which pumps blood through the four main chambers of the heart. Each chamber is separated by a flap that only allows the blood to go one way.

The heart beats on it’s own (your brain doesn’t control it) because it has a pacemaker that sets the beats (called the sinoatrial node). The contraction of your heart goes in a particular order to push the blood through your chambers, starting top-left and working down, right and up and out the aorta. It’s a great piece of machinery, vital to our survival and beats for your entire life.
