      Great question!

Planets were formed billions of years ago. After the sun formed, a lot of gas and dust and small particles were left behind in space. Gravity works to pull all of these small particles together, which soon begin to orbit big objects like the sun. Over time, these particles will continue to smash into each other and stick together, getting bigger and bigger. Eventually, you’ll end up with something as large as a planet! Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system – can you imagine how long it must have took it to get so big?!
