All the time! I’ve never done anything that’s caused anything really dangerous to happen, but mistakes can be made very easily. The most important thing is to make sure you write down and take notes of absolutely everything you have done, so if something doesn’t work or if there is a problem, you can work out pretty quickly where you’ve gone wrong.

Also, remember that some of the most important scientific discoveries were made from doing “something wrong” or by accident! The antibiotic penicillin was discovered by Alexander Fleming because he left a window open in the lab and let some fungus fly in to grow on some petri dishes. Also, some drugs have been made to treat one disease but have actually been found to be more effective at helping others. The key is to not thing of things as “being wrong”, but to open your mind and ask why things turned out the way they did.

Doing something wrong in an important experiment is a right of passage. Everyone makes mistakes, but you learn form them and hope not to repeat them next time!
