Get ready for I’m a Scientist!

I’m a Scientist starts on Monday, two weeks stuffed with creative questioning, exciting live chats and tenser-than-the-X-Factor eviction days!

Let’s meet the scientists competing for votes in the Tungsten Zone and the schools who’ll be challenging them…

The Scientists

Gemma Cripps Postdoctoral, National Oceanography Centre, Southampton

I research how climate change will impact the numbers and quality of our marine food, such as fish.

Hussain Jaffery | PhD Student, University of Glasgow

The bones inside your body are constantly being broken down and built back up by cells fighting out an epic battle for survival and dominance – this is what I study.

Ross King Postdoctoral, Queen Mary University of London

I am interested in understanding how drugs work and also how we can use these drugs to learn how the cells of the immune system travel round the body, either to heal us or to hurt us.

Robert Lees | PhD StudentUniversity of Bristol

I look at the living brains of mice using cool tools, such as laser microscopes, with the aim to understand how human brains work – I guess you could say I’m a zombie-scientist, except I don’t eat the brains!

Aimee Goodall | PhD Student, University of Birmingham

I’m a metallurgist; I look at how the bits inside metals, that are so small we can’t see with the naked eye, affect the way metal acts and what it can be used for – as you wouldn’t want a skyscraper made from your kitchen foil!
