      I have just looked into this and the answer is tricky.

      The largest land volcano in Hawaii, USA called Mauna Loa. It measures about 2000 square miles in area.

      However, the larges volcano on Earth is actually underwater. A feature called Tamu Massif, a 1000-miles of the coast of Japan, in the Pacific Ocean, has an unbelievable area of 100,000 square miles – that’s about the area of the British Isles!
