Great question! It’s true that usually people will only get chicken pox once in their life. That’s because when you are infected the first time, your immune system remembers what kind of infection you had. Because it remembers, the next time the disease enters your body, it is prepared to get rid of it much faster, meaning you don’t really get sick.

Of course, some people can get chicken pox several times – this doesn’t mean that your immune system isn’t working! Usually when chickenpox comes back, it comes back as a less severe form that we call shingles. After a few days, your immune system will get back on top of things and get rid of the nasty symptoms.

Hope this answers your question! 🙂
