Interesting question. People used to use metal for armour in ancient and medieval times in history. We could still use metal, but the problem is that metal is rather heavy. Certain types of metals are less heavy, like aluminium or titanium, but can be too expensive or too soft. Steel would be ideal, but its too heavy.

There has been much work done to find non-metal lightweight armour for soldiers and police officers. Kevlar is one of those materials (think bullet-proof jacket). Other future possibilities include use of carbon nano tubes and even spider silk! All of theses materials are being researched on as we speak and could provide the ideal form of armour.

      🙂
