Me and my work

I’m a metallurgist; I look at how the bits inside metals, that are so small we can’t see with the naked eye, affect how the metal acts and what the metal can be used for – as you wouldn’t want a skyscraper made from your kitchen foil!

My Typical Day

II spend lots of time working on metals; I polish them so there are no scratches, test how strong they are and look using a microscope to see what it looks like up close. I then check my emails and drink lots of tea and help students in labs sometimes.

What I'd do with the money

I would spend it on bits and bobs which can be used to make school visits more interesting. The goody bag would include items including fingerprinting kits (like CSI), mini microscopes and some fun science based games!

My Interview

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Energetic, Fun, Happy

Who is your favourite singer or band?

I love Taylor Swift!

What's your favourite food?

Cheese! The more cheese the better.

What is the most fun thing you've done?

I went caving under Budapest. I was scared I would get stuck but I didn’t and was really proud afterwards.

What did you want to be after you left school?

I had no idea, a spy or a wizard were the closet I came to deciding.

Were you ever in trouble at school?

Not often. Sometimes I forgot to do my homework and would spend the whole lesson waiting to be told off!

What was your favourite subject at school?

Science and PE!

What's the best thing you've done as a scientist?

I was researching fireworks and got to go see them all set up before Bonfire night, they told me where the best fireworks would be and the cool new ones for that year!

What or who inspired you to become a scientist?

I’m really nosey! As a scientist we get to ask why and find out things we wouldn’t otherwise know!

If you weren't a scientist, what would you be?

On holiday all of the time!

If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!

To be happy, healthy and to have a time watch so I never run out of time.

Tell us a joke.

What did the volcano say to his wife? I lava you so much!

Other stuff
